Between Two Masters

When I was younger, I was forced to decide between two masters.

The first man had incredible technical knowledge and martial background. He could describe how a technique worked so I could get it my first go. His ultimate goal was complete defensive capability, and this is what he always taught us. The second was a smaller man. He never taught much during class, instead leaving us to struggle and train with each other. When he did teach he was kind but kept his words simple and even vague. I love exploring how words work and how they affect people. My ultimate goal is to understand them to such a degree that I can more easily help others.

Haiku are a great way for me to express myself. They are, in so many ways, like Aikido techniques: we strive and strive for each one, with the ultimate goal of refinement in mind, yet in that refinement desiring to manifest great feelings and thoughts that are not just understood but felt within the souls of those we share them with.
